The following information is from Francesca Amodeo, volunteer director of the group Friends of John Barrow.
They are asking for our help with ongoing phone banking for Rep. Barrow’s campaign and voter registration efforts this weekend at Arts In The Heart.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Ms. Amodeo at the phone numbers listed below.
Below, I have written some specific information about this weekend followed by a general summary of our volunteer opportunities. I know you already do phone-banking, but if your members aren’t able to make it on a specific day of the week, we phone-bank from our office every evening and would love to have a larger crowd.
We also do voter registration. This weekend we’re trying to get in as many volunteers as we can to take advantage of the Arts in Heart of Augusta Festival. The festival takes place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and our goal is to have volunteers for each day. A voter registration shift is typically two hours, and while we try to start shifts on the hour or half hour, we’re very flexible to volunteers’ schedules. Voter registration shifts start at our office with a quick training on how to register people to vote, and then we send volunteers out with a location and all the materials they need.
Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide. We certainly appreciate your help, and I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Monday– Friday: 6:00 pm- 8:30 pm
Saturday: 11:00 am- 4:00 pm (split into shifts)
Phone banking is a great way to reach out to voters to talk about the strengths of the Democratic Party, and hear what their concerns are. It’s extremely helpful to the candidates, and can really make a difference in a voter’s mind. Volunteers are set up with a phone and laptop, and will talk to voters based on a script. We do a quick training, and it’s pretty easy to get the hang of! Phone banking takes place at our office every day exceptSunday in 2.5 to 3 hour shifts, though you only spend 2 hours on the phone.
Monday–Saturday: 11:00 am- 8:00 pm in 2 hour shifts
(also during special events)
Voter Registration is also a great way to reach out to folks in our area, and make sure that they have a voice in what is going on. Richmond county has over 55,000 unregistered voters, and it is our goal to decrease this number as much as possible! We have already registered over 5,000 people to vote.
Voter registration shifts start at our office, where we give volunteers a quick training and the forms needed to register folks. Then we will give volunteers a location with good foot traffic to go talk to people in the community and register them. At the end of their shift, volunteers turn in their forms to us, and then we give them to the Richmond County Board of Elections.
