Membership

HOW DOES THIS WORK?
All Democrats in Columbia County are invited to participate in the activities and events of Columbia County Democrats. The best place to start is by attending a monthly meeting. You can get important information about Columbia County Democratic Party by subscribing to our website at columbiacntydemocrats.com, or signing up for our mailing list. However, if you’d like to become a voting member of the body, the process is a little more involved.

Voting members of the Columbia County Democratic Committee (CCDC) are called Committee Members. Holding a District Seat empowers you to vote on important business administered at CCDC Business Meetings and in party elections conducted by the CCDP (such as those for Officers and State Committee Members). As well, holding a District Seat qualifies you to run for elected committee positions.

There are currently six (6) District Seats for each of the four (4) districts in Columbia County and four (4) At-Large positions. If there is a vacant seat in your district, or an At-Large District, you may apply to fill it until the next election. Half of the District Seats are elected during the Presidential Election year, and half are elected during the Gubernatorial Election year. District Seat terms are for four years, or until the next applicable election.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A DISTRICT SEAT?
First, you must be registered to vote in, and a resident of, Columbia County, Georgia. Next, make sure you know which District you live in. If there is a vacant seat in your district (see list below), then, you may apply to fill it until the next applicable election.

WHAT IF ALL SEATS IN MY DISTRICT ARE OCCUPIED?
Candidates may qualify to run whether or not the Post they seek is currently occupied. Incumbent Committee Members must qualify to run for re-election every four years.

WHAT IF I MISSED CANDIDATE QUALIFYING?

If there is a vacant seat in your district (see list below), you may apply to fill it until the next applicable election. Simply attend the next Columbia County Democratic Committee Business Meeting, and fill out a one-page application. Ensure that your address and voter registration information are in order; you will be advised of when the next District Caucus may be scheduled. If you have any questions about this process, or to request an application, please contact us.
